Healthcare Reform (H.R. 3590) remains a challenge for HR; understanding it, educating employees about it, and knowing the timeline of implementation since all the changes won’t be in effect until 2014.  Reading many articles about this topic has made me think there would be a value in condensing a lot of information into one location, especially since the first of these changes take effect September 23, 2010.

There are two articles that came out in March, after the Reform Act was passed.  These provide a summary of what Healthcare Reform will change and how it affects you as an HR Professional.  The first summarizes the changes that go into effect this September. The second article summarizes the implications on Human Resources.

Being that  much of this reform is centered around Wellness, I have included a couple of good resources for creating and implementing Wellness programs.  This site contains many links to different types of programs along with an explanation about why they are valuable.  Interestingly enough, there are legal considerations that must be considered as well so I have included an interesting article about what you should be aware of.

The last resource I wanted to include consists of 6 blog posts related to healthcare and human resources.  This covers a bunch of different topics around this issue and discusses some things I hadn’t considered, such as required break time for nursing mothers.  This may shed some light on some of the finer points of reform in case you haven’t had time to read the 2,000 plus page Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  If you want to take a look at it, you can view the whole thing here.  If you want the Cliff’s Notes version, I recommend you look here.   If you scroll down to the Provisions section, this actually does a nice job of summing up which pieces of the act will be implemented in which month.

I hope this provides value and if you have any feedback or do find it helpful, please comment and I can create similiar posts with multiple resources.
